Our Mission

The mission of Trust is to contribute to research, by organizing, preserving, communicating, and sharing the record of human knowledge it holds in the NotForgotten archive.

“We created NotForgotten with the aim to help people capture their stories and keep them preserved for hundreds of years,” “Whether it’s the big experiences, the little lessons, the secret to happiness, or the advice your parents gave you, we wanted to find an easy way to save stories so generations of family can access and enjoy them for centuries to come.”

Company Structure, The Trust and our Associates

Core to our purpose is to remain abreast of technology in the archiving, genealogy and librarian world and our partners and associates are central to that end. The Digital Preservation Trust was established separate to our operations to manage a Guarantee fund and to work hand in hand with the specialists, guided by an advisory board to care for the library (Videos).

Digital Preservation Trust

The Digital Preservation Trust has been established to ensure the longevity of NotForgotten’s archives and help keep our promises to our customers for centuries to come.

The NotForgotten Library is a separate entity from the operations of the company, and customer assets (Videos) are part of this library. The NotForgotten Library and Guarantee Trust Fund is overseen by an advisory board responsible for the administration of our continuing obligations for hundreds of years – caring for and making decisions concerning the video assets and the infrastructure which supports them

The role of the advisory board includes making strategic decisions and determining strategic direction for

  1. the preservation of NotForgotten’s archive, particularly with respect to succession planning for the archives;
  2. which initiatives to undertake (particularly with respect to updating technologies or changing storage providers);
  3. Owning the archiving and preservation policy
  4. Continued communication about NotForgotten—including its value, methodology and retrieval fees to access to its video archive—to relevant library, genealogy, media and archiving communities at the time;
  5. Demonstrating leadership in cultural heritage preservation in community-wide efforts to ensure the long-term preservation and availability of the scholarly record; and

  • Ashley Blewer, Archivist
  • Kerry Liebenberg, Solicitor
  • Rachel Broadbent, Library Consultant OCLC

The purpose of the Guarantee Trust Fund is to manage the investment to cover ongoing storage and technology migration costs of the NotForgotten Archives as well as to execute on migrating the physical copies of the Videos to updated formats over time.We intend to keep our promise of preservation by setting aside a portion of your Fees to cover all reasonably foreseeable technology costs (new tape drivers and replacement tapes/media formats) and storage fees to safeguard your Video online and in the Long-Term Storage Facility.

Values have been set to meet today’s capabilities where tapes and tape tech can be read two generations back, and conservatively estimating that tapes will be switched every ten years. However if technology improves (as it likely), this period may be extended.
